Building resilient futures through learning adventures
Building resilient futures through learning adventures
Welcome to Adventure in Learning
We're a specialist Alternative Provision based at Newburn Activity Centre in Newcastle, offering a unique and bespoke approach to education for pupils who find the demands of mainstream school challenging.
For some young people, a traditional classroom isn't the right fit — and that's exactly who we're here for. Whether a pupil needs a more tailored setting, is struggling in their current environment, or needs support to re-engage with learning, our experienced team builds an education around them. Small groups, a high staff-to-pupil ratio, and an extraordinary indoor and outdoor setting mean every young person gets the attention and the adventure they deserve.
Two provisions, one approach
Primary Provision · Years 3–6
A nurturing, hands-on start — rebuilding confidence and a love of learning through bespoke learning, play, outdoor activities and our Forest School.
Secondary Provision · Years 7–11
Re-engagement, accredited learning and real-world life skills — preparing young people for their next step with confidence.
What sets Adventure in Learning apart is our commitment to building genuine engagement, not just managing behaviour. We create highly personalised programmes that combine academic learning with meaningful outdoor and practical experiences, designed to reconnect young people with education in a way that feels relevant and achievable. Our approach is relationship-led, with consistent staff who understand the individual needs of each learner and adapt provision accordingly. We work closely with schools and local authorities to ensure clear communication, measurable progress, and purposeful next steps, whether that is reintegration into mainstream education, transition to specialist provision, or sustained engagement in learning. Every placement is built around the belief that with the right environment, structure and support, every young person can succeed.
What Sets Us Apart
Relationship-Led, Not Just Behaviour-Led
Everything starts with trust. We build consistent, genuine relationships with every pupil, because engagement and progress only follow once a young person feels safe and known — not managed.
Experienced, Skilled Staff
Our team is experienced in supporting SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs, and knows how to adapt on the day, not just on paper. That expertise is what makes a personalised plan actually work in practice.
Safe, Structured and Well-Managed
Every placement sits within a safe, structured environment, backed by robust safeguarding and careful risk management. Families and schools can be confident a young person is genuinely looked after.
Confidence, Resilience and Emotional Regulation
We put as much focus on how a young person feels as what they achieve. Building confidence and resilience, and giving pupils the tools to regulate their emotions, is at the heart of everything we do.
Support built around every young person
A bespoke education
Every learner is different. We craft a plan that fits — including for pupils with SEN.
Small groups, high support
High staff-to-pupil ratios mean every pupil gets real, individual attention.
Beyond the classroom
A climbing wall, cycle track, woodland and sports hall turn lessons into experiences.
Wellbeing at the heart
Calm therapeutic spaces help pupils regulate, reset and build resilience.
