Hello

I am David. Though County Durham born and bred, I have lived in many places, and travelled widely from my time in the British Army. I retired at a young age from the army as a Warrant Officer, and I thoroughly enjoy my second career as a teacher. Geography is my subject and travel is my passion. In my spare time I love to keep fit through running and weight training. I hope to achieve my black belt in karate this year. In my spare time I love to read about military history and listen to music.

Background

David’s experience of teaching in mainstream and Alternative Schools has formed the underpinning ethos behind Adventure in Learning. Within the education world, David has a unique background which shapes Adventure in Learning.

David is a retired British Army Warrant Officer who became a geography teacher on leaving the services. As a young man David became a Special Forces Communicator with 264 (SAS) Signal Squadron. Passing the arduous selection course had a deep impact on David, and consequently shaped his philosophy of leading and teaching young people.

At his current school, David was tasked with creating an engaging programme for young people on the edge of exclusion in Newcastle’s mainstream school. This has been hugely popular with many students, often returning to their parent school more focused and willing to learn. However, David feels that with the right place and the right staff, students can go even further by building resilience and self- belief in young people.
